Homeless Assessment Officer

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Homeless Assessment Officer to join a team in Liverpool on a full-time temporary ongoing basis. The Homeless Assessment Officer will be a part of a team conducting assessments of those presenting as homeless, identifying problems causing their homelessness, and offering support and advice. This role offers Hybrid working with 2 days per week based in office.
Requirements
Previous experience working in a similar role, preferably within housing options, homelessness prevention, or social housing
Experience of interviewing and negotiation skills including direct experience of working to prevent homelessness
Knowledge of the social and financial costs of homelessness to individuals, the local authority and other relevant bodies
Knowledge of Landlord and Tenant, Immigration, Welfare Benefits and relevant Social Services legislation
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Good organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage workload efficiently, and meet deadlines
Proficient computer skills, including experience with relevant software applications and databases
Role Expectations
Work with people in housing need and those who are potentially homeless to identify and address their housing and support needs. To identify problems causing their potential homelessness and provide them with tailored advice and assistance to secure alternative settled accommodation and prevent their becoming homeless
Work proactively with relevant Council departments, partners and private and registered social landlords to ensure that effective support is identified and implemented to prevent homelessness
Investigate and determine the status of those presenting as homeless as referred to the team
Undertake direct work with clients via home visits where appropriate to provide potentially homeless applicants with a full appraisal of their situation identifying and discussing a range of options for them to consider
Provide a range of assistance and support to prevent homelessness including work relating to asylum seekers, mortgage rescue scheme and when necessary representing clients at court hearings in regards to possession proceedings
Communicate with external partners, including local authorities, housing associations, support agencies, and landlords
Maintain Records: Accurately record all interactions, assessments, and decisions in line with relevant policies and procedures, ensuring confidentiality and data protection guidelines are strictly followed
