Support Worker/Advocate

    I am currently representing West Sussex Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 3-6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate of £14.38 which is negotiable dependent upon experience.

    We are looking for an Support Worker/Advocate this role will be: PO19 1RQ

    The right candidate will:

    * The purpose of this role is to support, empower and enable a member of staff that has Asperger’s syndrome to undertake their role at WSCC, fulfil their potential and thrive.

    * This role reports into WSCC’s EDI Lead, and involves direct work with a colleague, listening to them, championing their rights, ensuring these are respected, helping them have their say, and supporting them to express their views and opinions.

    * This could involve preparing and supporting them with important meetings, advocating for them, supporting with communication challenges, supporting the individual to engage in and maximise training, learning and development opportunities, helping the individual to manage stress or overwhelm, supporting the individual with learning new tasks as set by the individual’s manager, and support the individual to put themselves forward for opportunities and providing help and support in relation to applying for different jobs.

    We require the following:

    * Professional or voluntary experience of supporting adults with Autism or Asperger’s syndrome.

    * Strong understanding of neurodiversity, disability rights and workplace inclusion.

    * Experience of engaging, supporting, empowering and championing staff that are neurodivergent.

    * Experience of supporting individuals with neurodiverse conditions, particularly Asperger’s Syndrome, preferable in a professional setting.

    * Ability to advocate effectively and professionally, influence others, and build rapport with diverse stakeholders.

    Working Pattern: Part-time, up to 24 hrs per week but will vary. Hours to be worked from Mon – Fri, 8 am to 6 pm and will be negotiable. The hours may differ week on week, depending on need, but we will do are best to give plenty of notice as to when the hours will be. Working Arrangements: Hybrid – mostly office-based with some remote working available. Location: Chichester
